  14.           application is now available in the form of quick-start
  15.           turnkey management solutions.  These solutions are delivered
  16.           as preconfigured software and hardware bundles that are ready
  17.           to use to solve customer network management problems.  For
  18.           customers who need a network management solution and the
  19.           hardware on which to run it, save your valuable selling time
  20.           and their valuable management time by having them order one
  21.           of the two HP OpenView Network Management Stations.  Both
  22.           systems are simple to order and contain all the hardware and
  23.           software customers need to get their network management
  24.           solution up and running fast.

  26.           Product Overview

  28.           The HP OpenView Network Management Stations consist of a pair
  29.           of software/hardware bundles - the Campus Management Station
  30.           and the Enterprise Management Station. The Campus Management
  31.           Station is targeted at TCP/IP networks of up to 500 nodes
  32.           that contain Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP)
  33.           devices. The Enterprise Management Station is targeted at
  34.           TCP/IP networks of up to 2000 nodes that contain SNMP
  35.           devices.

  37.           The HP OpenView Campus Management Station (HP Product Number
  38.           B1039A) is based on the HP 9000 Model 425e workstation. The
  39.           425e is configured with 1280x1024 color graphics, a 19-inch
  40.           color monitor, 1 420 megabyte disk drive, 24 megabytes of
  41.           RAM, an internal CD-ROM drive, and the OpenView Network Node
  42.           Manager pre- loaded on the disk. It also includes quick-start
  43.           instructions so users can quickly begin to manage their
  44.           networks, and the HP-UX CD-ROM set for the Series 400 with a
  45.           pre-computed codeword. The US List price for the Campus
  46.           Management Station is $36,000. It is available world-wide.
  47.           Leadtimes are approximately 6 weeks.

  49.           The OpenView Enterprise Management Station (HP Product Number
  50.           B1040A) is based on the HP 9000 Mode 720 workstation. It
  51.           includes 1280x1024 color graphics, a 19-inch color monitor, 1
  52.           420 megabyte disk drive, 32 megabytes of RAM, an external CD-
  53.           ROM drive with SCSI cable, and the HP OpenView Network Node
  54.           Manager pre-loaded on the disk. Like the OpenView Campus
  55.           Management Station, it also includes quick-start instructions
  56.           and the HP-UX CD-ROM set for the Series 700 with pre-computed
  57.           codeword. The US List price for the Enterprise Management
  58.           Station is $48,000. It is available world-wide. Lead times
  59.  
  60.           are approximately 6-8 weeks.

  62.           Both OpenView Management Stations include two options:
  63.           o  Option 1FH for an AT-style American language keyboard
  64.           o  Option 1FJ for an HP-style American language keyboard.
  65.           The customer should order either option but not both.

  67.           Target Customers
  68.  
  69.           The target customers for the HP OpenView Network Management
  70.           Stations are managers of TCP/IP networks with SNMP devices
  71.           needing a turnkey network management solution. These are the
  72.           same customers as the HP OpenView Network Node Manager
  73.           product who also need hardware to run the application.

  75.           Target customers for the Campus Management Station are
  76.           managers of networks up to approximately 500 TCP/IP nodes.
  77.           This is not a hard limit, but the CPU performance and the
  78.           amount of memory in the system are geared more toward this
  79.           more medium-sized network.

  81.           Target customers for the Enterprise Management Station are
  82.           managers of larger TCP/IP networks up to about 2000 nodes. As
  83.           with the Campus Management Station, this is not a hard limit,
  84.           but a practical one based on CPU performance and memory.

  88.           Immediate Use - HP-UX, Visual User Environment (VUE), Instant
  89.           Ignition, and OpenView Network Node Manager are all pre-
  90.           loaded on the system disk so your customer does not have to
  91.           be concerned with any installation.

  95.           to be concerned about whether you have configured the right
  96.           graphics adapter, the right amount of memory or the right

  111.           Questions and Answers

  113.           Q. Are these OpenView Management Stations really that simple
  114.           to order?
  115.  
  116.           A. Yes. There is only one price on each of the OpenView
  117.           Management Stations. Each of the Management Stations has only
  118.           two options - the customer can choose between either an HP-
  119.           style keyboard (the keyboard included with the A1099B
  120.           localization kit) or an AT-style keyboard (the one included
  121.           with the A2205A Localization Kit).

  123.           Q. What is actually involved in getting a Management Station
  124.           up and managing the network?
  125.  
  126.           A. Both OpenView Network Management Stations come with brief,
  127.           simple-to-follow instructions on how to get up and running.
  128.           When the OpenView Management Station is turned on, the user
  129.           is prompted for a network host name and a network IP address,
  130.           just as with normal Instant Ignition. Both of these items are
  131.           critical to the operation of the OpenView Network Node
  132.           Manager. Then the user is instructed to start up the system
  133.           and either configure a network host table, a Domain Name
  134.           Server, or a Network Information Services (NIS) Server. Since
  135.           Network Node Manager will not work optimally without one of
  136.           these configured, we have added special scripts to the
  137.           OpenView Network Management Stations to ensure that they are
  138.           properly configured before starting Network Node Manager.

  140.           Q. What if my customer wants peripherals other that just the
  141.           CD-ROM drive supplied with the OpenView Management Stations?
  142.  
  143.           A. In these cases, your customer should order the peripherals
  144.           separately from the Network Management Station. If there is
  145.           sufficient demand for a particular type of peripheral such as
  146.           a second hard disk drive or a DAT drive, we  will make it a
  147.           future option to the Management Stations' product structures.

  149.           Q. The options 1FH and 1FJ on each of the OpenView Network
  150.           Management Stations are only for American keyboards. What
  151.           should my customer do if this is a problem?
  152.  
  153.           A. We did a quick survey of our network management customers
  154.           world-wide and found that the majority of them prefer an
  155.           American keyboard rather than one localized for another
  156.           country, especially since the Network Node Manager is not
  157.           presently localized for any language other than English. If
  158.           your customer desires a keyboard other than the American one,
  159.           have them order the appropriate localization kit (A1099B for
  160.           HP-style keyboard, A2205A for AT-style keyboard) with the
  161.           appropriate country option.

  163.           Q. What are some of the future plans for the OpenView
  164.           Management Stations?
  165.  
  166.           A. We have several exciting things on the horizon. We plan to
  167.           further enhance the Network Management Stations as turnkey
  168.           network management  solutions by adding new options, such as
  169.           HP's Interconnect Manager and other network and system
  170.           management products. We are also looking at changing the
  171.           Campus Management Station from being based on the HP 9000
  172.           425e to being based on the hot new HP 9000 Model 710. Stay
  173.           tuned for more updates to the OpenView Network Management
  174.           Stations.

  176.           Q. How does my customer buy support for the OpenView Network
  177.           Management Stations?
  178.  
  179.           A. The customer should buy hardware support and Software
  180.           Materials Update as they normally would for a 425e with HP-UX
  181.           and Instant Ignition (Campus Management Station) or a 720
  182.           (the Enterprise Management Station). In addition, they should
  183.           buy Software Materials Update for OpenView Network Node
  184.           Manager (H2014A+S00, Option 425 for the Campus Management
  185.           Station and Option 720 for the Enterprise Management
  186.           Station). We plan to update customers with Software Materials
  187.           Update from OpenView Network Node Manager 2.0 to OpenView
  188.           Network Node Manager 3.0 for free.
